Trondheim Workshop

This SHORES workshop will engage a combination of young researchers and general public, recruited through institutional and general announcement, as well as through contacts with local associations. It is lead by Øyvind Brandtsegg, with assistance from Heather Frasch, both professors from NTNU with a background in music composition, sound art and sonification.

The workshop will gather research data (in the form of audio recordings, maps, visualizations, and other data) pertinent to ocean climate research and use these items to produce an artistic output. Working methods will include sonification of research data in combination with a purely artistic/aesthetic approach.

The first day of the workshop will include lab visits to NTNU research labs for ocean research, with presentations from Ana Širović (bio acoustics, noise pollution) and Lena van Giesen (local coral reef spawning research).

The second and third workshop day will be spent in the music technology labs, exploring artistic applications of the collected data.

The third day will also include a public presentation of the workshop results.

Target group: Young Adolescents and Students
Target size: 10-12 participants
Workshop duration: 3 days
Dates: 19-21 May 2025
